Let's say that you've come to rely on Multiply for unique sharing and communication features -- ones you'd be hard pressed to find scattered about elsewhere on the Web today, much less all in one place. This would be a fair assumption, correct?
So now, given our history of innovation, we're pleased to introduce an upcoming feature that's been available everywhere on the Web pretty much since the dawn of time: guestbooks.
You know what we're talking about -- those small boxes on webpages that let visitors easily leave a quick comment for the page owner, albeit in a public manner so that anyone can comment as well, joining in the public conversation. Yup, all Multiply users will soon have these available for their accounts.
Why would we want to do this? Don't scratch your head just yet... since this is a Multiply feature we're talking about, the guestbook is anything but ordinary.
As always, complete control Our advanced, customizable privacy features that let one share their content with precisely whomever they want -- their entire network, their contacts, just a few individuals... or even the entire world -- are of the major tenets of Multiply. Naturally, your brand-new guestbook is no different; welcome guestbook comments from whomever you want.
Feel free to move it around your page or even hide it completely -- it works like any other box on your homepage (click "Customize Site" on your page to start editing.) Of course, you can even select how many recent comments should be displayed by default. It's your box, your way.
Notifications for all But what would a guestbook be without comments? And how do others get involved? With the message board, of course! Your guestbook works like any other type of post on Multiply, and as with all others, the message board is the glue that ties it all together and keeps the conversation going. Keep track of both replies on your own guestbook, as well as those on that of others you know. Multiply not only keeps you in the loop, but keeps everyone else there with you.
Say hello! Not only is the guestbook bucketloads of fun for existing Multiply users, but also helps new users get into the mix as well. Announcements of new Multiply users in your network show up on your message board. Be sure to say hi and welcome them aboard!
As previously mentioned, this feature isn't available just yet... but you can expect it sooner than later.
I have my own, I prefer private ones that will be another thing too charged on the home page sorry this time I must say it will be too busy to homepage. A guest-book is nice with some images not a white page to write in.
I don't know, this could turn out to be really confusing because people start commenting on entries by making replies AND by making their own entries...
cool! is there a way that everyone(even non-multiply people) can leave comments on the guestbook? because my friends don;t have multiply accounts and they just rely on my site to look at pics or any media.
i hope it will be possible on the message board to filter out my contacts guestbooks. since most guestbooks i've seen online consist of little more than "hi" or "thanks for the add" or "dude, you were so drunk last night" i really would be just fine not being alerted each time a new idiotic message is added. :-P
this is just great and a very good idea. I don't have to search for guestbook to be pasted in my multiply page. Thank you. You have done a good grand job!
How interesting... and I agree with barefootmeg... I hope this place doesn't turn into a MySpace... but a bulletin board or message board with running topics would be neat, especially for the tech-ignorant family who still want to leave their opinions, but won't take the time to figure out the whole thing. But a random "dude or such" would really drive me nuts. Glad there'll be complete control on that end. =D
OMG I AM SOOOO EXCITED!!!!! I love it when new toys/features come so I can play with it LOL u guys listen and keep up with the trends plus make ur OWN trend! You guys are super amazing!
yes I agree... maybe the Multiply Message Board will find ways to filter the contents... like say... I want to see all my Network....Blogs ONLY... or just Guestbook Entries only.....etc or another way coz i can see it being annoying just using that instead of direct email or comment or PMs... yes like how u did the GROUPS.... when u click on it... all the Group entries become visible etc =D lets see how it goes first... im still uber excited =D
HEY THERE MULTIPLY JUST ONE THING IS MISSING FROM MULTIPLY WE ARE ALL ASKING IF WE CAN HAVE A MULTIPLY INSTANT MESSAGER BOARD THAT CAN BE SET TO OUR INDIVIDUAL GROUPS IE ONE FOR ADULTS ONLY ETC IT WOULD HELP US GREATLY AS ALL THE INSTANT MESSAGERS OUT THERE ARE NOT QUIET RIGHT FOR MULTIPLY PLEASE HELP US FIND ONE THAT WORKS FOR OUR NEED TO CHAT INSTANTLY THANX FOR A GREAT PLACE TO BE ELLALOU XX

This is an important point that we considered, and just like everything else on Multiply, if there is a conversation you're not interested in, the easiest way to avoid it is to just stop reading, and it will naturally fall off the page. You'll have to do this at most once for each of your contacts, and that's only if you don't care what anyone has to say about them! ;-) If you can't stand to see them even for that time before they fall to page 2 or 3 or 4, we can suggest you enable the subscribe, pin and delete buttons under Preferences, and you can zap them in an instant!
The key thing to remember here is that there's only one guestbook per user, so it won't keep coming back to haunt you, even if your friends are of the "dude you were so drunk last night!" variety. Just let the post fall down the page and you won't see it again.

as long as a good conversation doesn't eventually start up there, this will work fine. and thankfully none of my contacts are of the "dude you were so drunk" variety. whew!

Won't it be a bad thing if you allow non-members to post at the guestbook? Isn't that like spamming just waiting to happen? Ok, I'm not keen to have spammers or rude non-unknowns all over the guestbook. It will be nice to have at least their ip recorded to our knowledge or something.
I would like to have all my non-multiply visitors to listen to the music on my multiply site. And this would go for every Multiply user that chooses to post content for everyone such as I do, that would just make sense. Also, I would like to be able to hide the download option for the playlists, I don't want to illegally share mp3s here.

We should have been more clear on this point but the Multiply guestbook will work like all other Multiply communication -- you have to be a member to post comments. We do this for a number of reasons, not the least of which is to combat spam. Registration is fast and free so we don't believe it's a big hurdle to require this.

As Pez explained, no, non-members won't be allowed to post comments. Thankfully.

so far, all i've been getting are notifications of multiply users who are ALREADY IN MY NETWORK. these notifications are very much annoying and are spamming my message board.
