Blog EntryA Look Back: GuestbooksJul 20, '07 5:08 PM
for everyone
It's kind of hard to believe, but nearly three months have passed since we unveiled the Multiply Guestbook feature... and homepages haven't been the same since.

As we mentioned in the original announcement, guestbooks on the Web aren't anything new or revolutionary, but we recognized the unique value they could add to the Multiply experience: allowing discussions to revolve around people, the same way they already do around content like photo albums, videos and blog entries. And just like all other types of content on Multiply, one can easily choose just how widely or narrowly to share their Guestbook with others, be it their contacts, network or everyone.

Now that you've had some time with the feature, we're interested in hearing how you've been making use of Multiply Guestbooks. How have they changed the way you keep in touch with the people you know?

it's easier for me to say hi to my friends. there are times that i just want to greet them but i dont want them to send them private messages since it's just a hello.

the guestbook is also a good way to give feedback about a whole multiply site in general. some conduct their business here and i think customers can write a feedback or two about the services offered by these professionals using the guestbook.
mcdi915 wrote on Jul 20, '07
at first the guestbook was very irritating coz my inbox was flooded with everyone else's guestbook entry...

now it's like a chatbox i've always wanted in my site...
chriscendo wrote on Jul 20, '07
The guestbooks are also kind of a nice public forum where a message is open to anyone and not just for a specific individual.
I do agree that it is easier to say hello to someone with it because of that.

I'm new, and haven't tried the guestbook stuff. But I certainly will :)

it woudl be nice if you give permission to make comments in every page, including anonymous comments, to people that aren't in Multiply yet ^^

Ps: sorry about the bad english!

Is there anyway to get our guestbook's to have say user badges on the right handside
( tiny icons instead of headshots which cause slow load-ups of whatever & callbacks to the headshot owners ) - ( Big bandwidth saver )
And minus the headshots within the messages - - as like within some Commercial Forum program,s - This would be a first for a website host - in the world as all other methods are or where made for a commercial forum pakage... -- Extra buttons for admins within the main viewing area on one's site or Group.. ---- Better resizeing of the guestbook to anysize We want... ---
Chance of xtra admin's within the said guestbook that could remove said posts at times they want -- With a option like that - It would make the MULTIPLY - Guestbook a LIVE FORUM... of Which there is no said FREE HOST In the world that offer's this for free. -------- >

OPTIONS To set photos to autosize to the size of the guestbook - to stop those whom add LARGE Photos with a small guestbook - which can screw up a complete web layout...

All items on our sites & group's need better RESIZING OPTIONS

ALL THE BEST - BUGS

I don´t like very much the full entry view. It seems very non-aesthetic. cant´it be like the boxes, which you click and and in its own page you can see the entries?

I think the guestbook is a very nice feature!
As for the question how it has changed the way to keep in touch with the people I know, actually the guestbook allows me to keep in touch with people I don't know :)
For people I know, I have other means, like email, IM, PM, to stay in touch. But the guestbook allows people who chance upon my blog to leave a message, say hi, give comments on my blog, etc.

It would be really great however if the guestbook could be opened up for non-multiply users, so that my friends who are not on multiply can leave a message if they pay a visit. Other blog engines like blogger, wordpress, allow this with a security code to prevent spam-comments.

But big thumbs up for the guestbook :D
afterinfo wrote on Jul 21, '07, edited on Jul 21, '07
Whitecatsg - That option to open it up for non members is available
Now & has been since it was released around april this year..

There are three [ 3 ] settings available on all our Site guestbooks

If you want any old tom - dick n harry n mary to visit your guestbook
set it too EVERYONE - From your Main Guestbook edit screen..

It is much better if we could choose the design for our guestbook or even design it ourselves.
Our current guestbook looks a bit bulky, but functionally it's perfectly fine.
Perhaps at least allow us to change the size of the guestbook? ^_^

In fact, the first thing I did was to disable Guestbook! I want my homepage clean...
Besides, if anyone wants to talk with me, he/she can always send me a private message.

Multiply's Guestbook is equivalent to Orkut's Scrapbook, and they share the same lack of privacy and control over who can post there.

it would be easier and more practical if, like blog, viedo, and photo comments, the guestbook comment can be deleted by the site owner or the thread starter (author).this is because some guestbook entries are neither appropriate nor intelligible. and some of us would like to "boast" guest remarks but hide those inappropriate ones.

thanks, and please consider. hugs. ^^,

or you could do it friendster style, wherein the page owner can approve or decline the comment.

Absolutely, the GB is great! Recently I got a lot of nasty messages left in the GB. Some comments about how not appropriated to the clothes I have worn, just like that. Even more, the contents I have had written in my blog were rubbish. I have deleted and block the users of Multiply of this way. Because I don't understand any of the reasons not "why" but "how" they hate me? I never know-ed any them, better yet....of their existence in our beloved Multiply.

It would never easy to stop of such messages to more come in the GB or in any other sections. I am very proud of Multiply and being user. Still I am. Let us makes the best of the GB. I have learned a lot through Multiply, then know-ed users by names without meet them face-by-face. In the future who knows?

Have a great weekend!

I love the GUESTBOOK feature. I had some of my entries private to other people, and it seemed that the guesbook made the public viewers add me on their sites. It's sort of an introduction to others who haven't tried to use Multiply. I'm excited for more new features in the future! Thanks!
janujennifer wrote on Jul 22, '07
the guestbook feature is great, but others still want to put in other guestbooks and chat boxes, all because the multiply guestbook is only for multiply users. it would be a good help to maked the guestbook open to anybody, so then other users won't put other services into their sites.

Would very much like to use the guestbook feature without it screwing up my layout. Sorry peeps.

They can. Just make sure you are viewing the dedicated guestbook page (which is the user's site url /guestbook) and you will see the Delete links next to your own comments, or next to all of them if it's your guestbook.

How about the chat box which I found in one website that they were offering? Is it applicable on this site? Please let me know, because I am interested to have it on my site. And if it is applicable where will I place it? which post I can place it?

I saw some multiply users that they have it already. I do not know when I asked them they can not answer me.

Thanks.

I use it mostly as a - well, guestbook. I mean that I drop a line when I visit a site whose owner I don't really know - and I appreciate it when an occasional visitor does the same to me.
It's also nice for small remarks to friends, like: "Hi - great new theme/headshot ---". And "how's your cold"; "happy birthday", etc.
immaculatev wrote on Jul 23, '07
