Today, we're proud to announce a partnership with our friends at ABS-CBNi, the interactive division of media conglomerate ABS-CBN, based in Quezon City, Philippines.
For those unfamiliar, the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation is the largest media company in the Philippines, owning and operating dozens of television and radio stations. This deal, through ABS-CBN's connections, means better, more relevant, local advertising for Filipino Multiply users.
According to Multiply CEO Peter Pezaris, "Partnering with ABS-CBN, and having access to all their top-flight blue chip advertisers gives Multiply a strong competitive edge in grabbing an early and large slice of the online advertising pie while extending our brand in the Philippines, the Asia Pacific, and worldwide."
if I understand this right, this could mean a more user friendly Multiply for them.
Braembel, this anouncement has nothing to do with interface language choice. All of this is to say that from now on Filipino users will begin receiving local advertising on Multiply pages.
the great thing about this is everyone who is a member of multiply will have a good use of the filipino media as well...hmmm...bottomline is we are becoming more powerful than ever. Remember two heads are better than one.
but wait...this seems weird though : \ why not tie up with PLDT or something. :| gahhhh we will be bombarded with sitcom and soap opera advertisements :|
wah. kung magsalita ka, parang hindi ka Pilipino. =( kaya hindi umuunlad ang Pilipinas eh..
No, the reason the Philippines isn't moving forward is because we think penny-ante also-rans like Multiply are so great. Hell, they don't even support OpenSocial.
why ABS-CBN? not by favoring other station (especially the GMA 7) (so no damn flames) :D just asking
Because ABS-CBN does not know how to do business online. Instead of becoming a YouTube partner like CBS, they're cutting some ho-hum ad deal with some bottom-tier social network.
people with negative comments... i think that multiply isnt being biased for choosing abs-cbn
theres a possibility that abs-cbn offered partnership or something we dont really know whats behind this but i still think that you dont need to drag the network war here...

Yes, no one needs to drag Multiply into the Philippine network war. They brought it upon themselves.
On Nov 6 one of my friends posted a blog which I read. It promptly disappeared off her page, but still appears as a notice on my "my multiply" page. Here's how it starts- paste:>> by Renee, your friend Hello Folks I am currently taking a day off. Here is a quick blog. Thor and I are exploring our little library. Lately I have been trying to concentrate really hard... [more] 1 reply, latest was 1 day ago by you
A little while later I checked her page and it was back on. Now it is gone again. This is a MAJOR glitch, as some people post work on their pages that they want to keep . Just thought you should know. It is still on my notification list--or this much of it is, but the link takes you nowhere when you click it.

OK. Great... Hope that this will bring greater access and cooperation as well to millions of Filipinos all over the world. Great things come from small beginnings.
good choice and good deal for you both multiply and abs-cbn! im such a "multiply-user" when i learned bout it and im proud to be an all-out KAPAMILYA fan! knowing this great news? COOOOOOL....
For those of you that are concerned that this partnership will result in you getting "bombarded" with ads, I can assure you that this will not be the case. Hopefully the ads you do see will be more relevant, but the number of ads you see shouldn't really change. This partnership allows Multiply to generate revenue in the Philippines, while at the same time allowing our own staff to continue to focus on improving the product for all of our users.
In short, the deal reflects our commitment to operating a real business in the Philippines and not just taking a US-centric view of the social networking space.
This is crappy idea, they are joining this site so they can also take over the video being shared because they've already killed anyone who posted in YouTube. This really sucks big time.
Hello Multiply Staff - could someone please remove the Pimp Your Profile Banner off my page please. I don't know how it got there but it is giving problems to my friends who want to post on my page. It opens onto another page and then wants to download something into their computer. Thank you (Sorry I have no clue where else to write to get a hold of you)

I expect a global view of the social networking space, not a local hyperfocus that makes you look like you're desperately clinging to your last viable geographic market.

Mike,
Try actually using Multiply a bit (rather than complaining about it) and you're likely to figure out how it works. Also given your seemingly limited use of the product, I'm not sure where your "expectations" come from, or why anyone should take them seriously.
Your Multiply network is all about you and the people you know -- it's hyperlocality incarnate. Everyone's experience is unique -- why shouldn't geography play a role?
P.S. Did you sell any advertising during your one month at ThinkSmart? Ever run the same campaign across the entire world? If so, how'd that work out for you?
THIS IS BULLSH*T!!! THE LAST THING THAT MULTIPLY NEEDS IS MORE ADVERTISING CRAP!!! GUSTO NYO BA KUNG ANU-ANO ANG IPAGLALALAGAY NG ABS D2? ALL BULLSH*T CRAP!!!
Wag sana gawing JOLOGS Ng ABS-CBN tong MULTIPLY!!!!
KALOKOHAN ETO!!! SA MGA NATUTUWA NA NAKIPAGTIE-UP ANG ABS AT MUTIPLY... HINDI NYO ALAM ANG SINASABI NYO! KUNG GUSTO NYO NG SHOWBIZ... DUN KAYO SA WEBSITE NG ABS-CBN PUMUNTA... HANAPIN NYO YUNG SECTION NI BOY ABUNDA KUNG PURO TSIXMAX LANG ANG HABOL NYO!

their partnership is about multi-year advertising and revenue-sharing agreement. i dont think "chismis" has to do anything with it. or can it be compared to websites like PEx.
you can read the whole press release.
and its a partnership or an agreement. why just bash ABS CBN? i mean i love Multiply. it takes two to tango. :)
heeheehee... i LOVE it when things like this happen - you get to see ALL sides of the situation... we get the elitists, we get the who-care's-i-definitely-don't-really-i-don't, we get the socially disgusteds, we get the hyper-happy love addicts, we get evereebodeee!!!!!

So it's all about the ADVERTISING INDUSTRY? That's still great, at least for the Philippine economy. Cheers to all.

some of you are correct: these are just marketing strategies and from now on we will be surrounded with ads-ads-ads! but that is no big deal for me coz i'm using multiply for FREE!

really, that's good news! but i have a problem, i work for abs-cbn as a brainstormer and program monitor but the problem is my multiply account was blocked at the ELJ by the IT. i simply cant open my account there. huhuhu. could you guys do something about that. most employees of abs-cbn had their multiply account blocked by the IT. thanks
here's the thing: if ABS CBN people are putting on ads here in multiply, just make sure the multiply people make it an option. give the people a choice if they want those ads on their multiply pages or not.
..so the people can stop ranting here.
and mikeabundo, i dont like the way you reply here in this thread. you keep saying stuff like "third world" and bash people's comments. it seems like you comment here regularly, just to say that multiply sucks or what not, or how they made a bad move.
It's all about ads. Okay. Good thing for both parties. I do hope though that there won't be any annoying pop-up ads like in Friendster or MySpace. I don't like this whole Kapamilya thingy. It's marketing bull...

someone has probably added an image to your guestbook and inadvertantly added the banner as well. you need to remove their post to get rid of the banner.
a great place to ask questions like this is the user support group here on multiply. (in fact, i'm pretty sure this question has already been addressed there. look for posts that have to do with deleting graphics from guestbooks.)
I expect a global view of the social networking space, not a local hyperfocus that makes you look like you're desperately clinging to your last viable geographic market.
global ads don't work as well as local ones. i'm much more likely to shop somewhere local than to buy something half way around the world and pay the shipping.
ABS-CBN advertisers will be paying for ads on Multiply. That's cash out of Manila going to Florida -- hardly a boost for our economy.
so you're saying that if multiply advertises non-filipino companies on multipy and filipinos therefore end up buying products from these non-filipino companies that that's better than multiply being paid to show filipino ads that will result in more filipino merchants selling more of their products locally?
i'm confused.
don't the products themselves usually cost more than the ads that sold them? so isn't more of the money staying in the phillippines in the long run?
i'd much rather see ads for things that i might actually be interested in rather than ads for stuff i'd never use in a million years. i've actually found resources that i'm interested in thanks to some of the ads i've seen on multiply. they matched what i was writing about and obviously i was already interested in what i was writing about or i wouldn't be writing about it.
cmon its just ads...that are located on the upper left side, lower right side of your screen,...which most of the time we don't even pay attention to...as long as they dont put moving banners of "Kokey" and "Wowowee" sliding across our multiply screen....hehe

You're assuming that ABS-CBN ads are automatically more likely to be more relevant to more Filipinos. That sort of generalization is just insulting to Filipinos. It implies that we mindlessly swallow everything one local TV station throws at us. Just because an ad's from ABS-CBN doesn't mean it's relevant to me.

Don't try to confuse people. Multiply currently carries ads from AdSense, which is open to even the smallest Filipino entrepreneur. Now Multiply will carry ads from ABS-CBN, which caters only to big businesses -- usually multinationals.
By siding with ABS-CBN, you've killed Filipino entrepreneurs' chances of advertising to Filipinos on Multiply.
ESL... English is a Stupid Language... ang "ball (bol)" nagiging "bal" pagnilagyan ng "et" sa dulo... "ballet (ba-ley)" ano un? eh bakit "wallet"? bwahahahaha
I don't know where'd you've been all these time... did you know that there's a Filipino in every part of the world??
"Houston, you ARE the problem"
Guess what? I am Filipino.
(Apparently you didn't get what I mean)
-----
To Multiply Developers,
When are you running the ads? Why not a test run or something like that? Obviously if we don't like it, we can't do anything about it because we're using your services for free. So we might as well switch back to myspace or wherever.
But if what you say is true, if it won't really make a big difference, if it won't bombard us with ads that we simply don't like, if it won't take out ABS-CBN content (like videos, photos, etc) from our pages-- then we'd stick with you.
This was definitely a business move by both ABS-CBNi and Multiply. Multiply is evidently not one of those charity-run sites. Servers cost money. Web domain registration costs money. Site development and maintenance costs money.
That being said, we users are customers of Multiply's service. We are no more and no less than customers. The only important thing Multiply can get from us is traffic, and traffic is one very attractive factor for those in the advertising industry.
A good decision or not, only the financial statements of Multiply can tell. And only those with access to it can know for sure.
WHAT I MEAN TO SAY IS, STOP COMPLAINING AND BASHING EACH OTHER 'COZ NOTHING POSITIVE IS GOING TO HAPPEN ABOUT IT AND MULTIPLY NOR ABS-CBN WILL NOT BE APPRECIABLY AFFECTED ANYWAY. OK BA 'YUN??
P.S. I love Multiply, I love ABS-CBN, and I do not like ads.
you cannot please everyone, we are all individuals with different wants and likes.... it is hard to please everyone.... to the user complaining with ads, hey guys, not all in this world come for free... take note our accounts are free, in short we are not paying.... how come multiply can exist if there will be no ads.. come on guys, lets admit it... multiply is also paying for their bills... lol.
Multiply and Multiply users, "UNITED we stand, DIVIDED we fall"
you can see the word MULTIPLY so lets multiply not DIVIDE....lol
this will mean the entry of commercials into multiply such as what we see on miserable free on-air local TV which abs-cbn dominates and bombard us with what these ongoing advertising conventions are cooking up now in Subic, Philippines. You see, even for paid services such as Skycable, CableTV - they have transformed this pay TV to miserable commercial driven channels without a blink of guilt to their paying subscribers. What more with Multiply, which is free social netwoking? I can just imagine how shitty this will turn out, judging by their commercial operations in philippine media. Very political too, in a bad way.
Realize now that they dominate advertising sales because they dominate the airwaves, IT IS NOT the other way around,... they dominate the airwaves because they dominate advertising sales? This is why they can't seem to figure out why the public hates commercials, or why the paying public will hate them for placing commercials in their paid subscriptions. Such is the price of megamonopolizations.
And, kapamilya you say? Dream some more,... because according to Multiply's TOS: ... Non Commercial Use by Members
The Multiply Web site is for the personal use of individual Members only and may not be used in connection with any commercial endeavors. Organizations, companies, and/or businesses may not become Members and should not use the Service or the Web site for any purpose. Illegal and/or unauthorized uses of the Web site, including collecting usernames and/or e-mail addresses of members by electronic or other means for the purpose of sending unsolicited e-mail and unauthorized framing of or linking to the Web site will be investigated, and appropriate legal action will be taken, including, without limitation, civil, criminal, and injunctive redress and the Member's account will be terminated. ... So, how can they be a kapamilya if they cannot even be members like us, who cannot go into any "any commercial endeavors" here? This is so total weirdness. But nonetheless deserves congratulations for hooking up with Multiply, which I have grown to cherish. Cheers!
talaga! ang galing! so ibig sabihin nito eh may free access na rin mga empleyado ng ABS_CBN sa multiply..sana hindi na nkafirewall ai i classify as personal and dating site ang multiply dahil pinagkakakitaan rin pala natin.. baka kasi "persistent attempt to open the site may dealt with removal of internet access by admin or :

i really don't see the point of this merger, well unless that is if multiply only plans to target a specific market. also, bringing a mass media corp in multiply betrays the purpose of blogging which is sharing something individualistic and personal. and i'm also afraid that this will cause a chain reaction which will bring multipliers that comes only to access abs-cbn (celebs and whatnot) rather than 'share' their life.
well, whatever. i'm pretty sure my circle wont be tarnish.^___^v
i just hope that the celebs that are honestly blogging in here as a common individual would not start advertising themselves or something.
and i can't see the purpose of abs-cbn to making their 'official' account here in multiply. i'm pretty sure they are a rich company to have a whole website for all their shannanigans rather than use a blogging site. and for those who are excited by that clause i bet they are fanatic enough to know that.
Question? can we have an option not to receive ABS-CBN ads on our personal multiply site? I don't want one in mine.
Me neither. I would like the ability to opt out of ads from ABS-CBN. That's how polarizing they are. I don't mind my Multiply page carrying ads, I just don't want it carrying ABS-CBN ads.
this obviously isn't about a rift between abs-cbn & gma. wtf. you guys are fucking stupid. reading all your comments' making me sick. we're using multiply for free, and we all have seen google ads whenever we open our site. that's just gonna be added with content from abs-cbn advertising partners. don't you know that those ads basically pays for everything that we're using in multiply? it pays for the bandwidth we have to carry with all our uploads and the traffic we generate. don't you guys know how to fucking read? who gives a shit if you're kapuso or not?! that doesn't fucking matter! nakakahiya kayo, fucking jologs people. damn.

give us the freedom to post what we want provided it does not violate the terms and conditions!
man, you're not making any fucking sense! "give us the freedom to post what we want provided it does not violate the terms and conditions!" - wtf? what do ads have to do with what you just fucking said??

tell them to work harder then. big businesses wouldn't be big businesses if they didn't.
tama its just ads...located mostly at the part of the screen we don't even see...hehe
this is just an example of how Pinoys have become an online superpower...basta sa mga Forum pahabaan ng thread...Foreigners are probably (and Multiply personnel as well ) wondering why the big fuss with this partnership...
as i said I'm a big Eat Bulaga, Bitoy's Yari ka and Marimar fan...but i dont see anything wrong with Multiply forging a partnership with ABS CBN
ABS-CBN advertisers will be paying for ads on Multiply. That's cash out of Manila going to Florida -- hardly a boost for our economy.
i'm an economist. let me tell ask you something, what are the ads used for? for the filipinos. who are their target? the filipinos. who circulates money? the filipinos. where does this happen? in the philippines.
here's a tip fill up your multiply page with GMA 7, ABC 5 materials and no ABS CBN ads will appear on your multiply page...why? because Multiply has this program that tracks the content of your Multiply page...and then they post ads that they think are in your own interests....
like for me, i like to write about the beatniks, zombie movies, Jack Kerouac and Whiskey...and for that, the kind of ads that appears on my multiply page are the ones that are related with Kerouac, Whiskey and Zombie movies...
some of you are correct: these are just marketing strategies and from now on we will be surrounded with ads-ads-ads! but that is no big deal for me coz i'm using multiply for FREE!

man, it's blue chips advertisement. not tv shows advertisement. that would be just stupid, it wouldn't give a lot of revenue.
like it or not, it's going to be fucking there. the ads pay for multiplys operation. don't you get it?
What you don't get is that many Filipinos do not want to become part of this silly little network war by carrying ABS-CBN ads next to their content on Multiply.
If you're a Filipino and you post content on Multiply, content that attracts views for ABS-CBN ads, you effectively work for ABS-CBN. Without consultation, Multiply has forcibly thrust all their Filipino content creators to ABS-CBN's side.
I know that. I'd seen it in your site. That's why i was confused. and asked you where'd u been. (Apparently you didn't get what I asked. must be age-gap, or something else)
If you're a Filipino and you post content on Multiply, content that attracts views for ABS-CBN ads, you effectively work for ABS-CBN. Without consultation, Multiply has forcibly thrust all their Filipino content creators to ABS-CBN's side.
i don't see the logic...
what's being a Filipino got to do with this?...don't question other people's Patriotism just by merely using Multiply which happens to have "ads" that nobody ever notices in the first place....unless you stare at your screen for an hour...
as i said as long as they keep the ads simple and not present us with moving "Kokey" slideshows...that's fine with me....hehe

well, we don't have much of a choice do we. abs-cbn's blue chip ads may be biased towards their shows & what not, but i just call it healthy competition. i dont care if it's abs' or gma's ads showing up next to my content. by the way, show me evidence of this so called network war, people. let me tell you something too, attracting views is just attracting views. it would make a lot of difference if i didn't click the ad. i have my own choice and i can ignore it as i wish. if they don't want this, then they should get the fuck out of multiply and join some other network that doesn't cater to abs-cbns business practices.
Honestly, after all these months of Multiplying... i'd develop the ability to pretend that the ads arent there anyway.... I first noticed that there were really ads and banners when Multiply started posting ads of Globe, E-telecare and some companies in the Philippines.... must be sponsors to keep Multiply running...
... now with ABS-CBN ads.... i just hope we won't be seeing ABS ads related to their teleseryes and noontime shows because... we had enough of them on teevees... and poor GMA and other channels...
Anyone speculating on the idea that ABS could set up a program to get a text-count in your blogs and start spamming you with ads you don't want?
Have you noticed that the text ads and banner ads around your Multiply somewhat relates [or at least one or two words] to the blogs you recently posts?
well, we don't have much of a choice do we. abs-cbn's blue chip ads may be biased towards their shows & what not, but i just call it healthy competition. i dont care if it's abs' or gma's ads showing up next to my content. by the way, show me evidence of this so called network war, people. let me tell you something too, attracting views is just attracting views. it would make a lot of difference if i didn't click the ad. i have my own choice and i can ignore it as i wish. if they don't want this, then they should get the fuck out of multiply and join some other network that doesn't cater to abs-cbns business practices.
You're right, Paul. Anyone who does not want to support ABS-CBN should move their content off Multiply.
like it or not, it's going to be fucking there. the ads pay for multiplys operation. don't you get it?
I guess your right Paul. Am just tire of seeing network ads all over the place, billboards, walls, anywhere. just want this site to be free of this network ads war. But like you said, its gonna be fucking there no matter what. fuck!
its nice that abs-cbn and multiply tied up cause we can upload videos and pictures in this way without hassle cause its difficult in ikawtv . to those who hate the idea, let us give chance to others who wants to show of their talents through this website. Thumbs up to abs-cbn and multiply!

I happen to like the ads - i think the snorgtees girl is hot. I really dont give a flying 'pluck' if its GMA or ABS frankly i dont watch local TV, its full of dumbass tele-seryes with even dumber-ass acting.
The point here is that MULTIPLY is a business run, thus far, very well by Pez et al. All businesses need revenue to continue operating, ergo, partnerships with Advert money.
So before you complain about this abs-cbn multiply business deal, ask yourself this fundamental question...
Are you PAYING for your use of the multiply servers?
Of course not you MORON otherwise you wont have ads to complain about!
So either ante up and give your beloved multiply blog revenue...or stop talking about your idiot network affiliation, or your need to have a friggin choice about not having ads! Damn, you really redefine the phrase stupid is as stupid does.

As Paul points out, there's a third option: move your content off Multiply. Some people just don't want ABS-CBN ads on their content.

i don't like abs-cbn, gma or local tv for that matter but these ads are really unobtrusive. i'm glad multiply got a local advertiser. these are revenues that will keep our site running, simple as that. more power to multiply!
I SHOULD SAY WE SHOULD BE PROUD OF IT..WHO SAYS THAT FILIPINOS ISNT MOVING FORWARD..LOOK AT HAPPYSLIP.COM (CRISTINE), VERDES TRIO AND OTHERS..PURE BLOODED FILIPINOS WHO ARE..GETTING OR BEING RECOGNIZED THROUGH THIS KIND OF MEDIA... =)
I beg to disagree.. great broadcasting ideas come from ABS-CBN ... sumusunodlang ang GMA.. siguro ngayon umaangat ang GMA but give credit to the 17 years of being number one of ABS-CBN... yan na kinalakihan natin ang mga shows nila.,...

good thing. haha.. multiply will surely have tons of users after a day or so. i started using multiply before it got famous here in the phil. haha.. glad to know that my favorite local station had an agreement with my favorite website. hahaha :D
If multiply will put ads from ABS, I don't think there'd be much change with the rules whatsoever. They've got nothing to do with whatever we post. No banning, etc. It's not like Multiply will be under ABS-CBN or vice versa. If they want ads, they got it. We've got nothing to do with it, and they've got nothing to do with our posts.
Anyway, partnering with Multiply is a good move. That's all.
I don't why some filpeople are so selfish, so tight minded....tsk...tsk...tsk...
i think what we are going to expect here are ads catered for us, which is not a bad thing after all... and what's nice is we have a place already in the hearts of the Multiply guys. keep it up... welcome to kapamilya... =)
A Partnership is different from a merger. The companies, ABS-CBNi and Multiply are partnering to gain more profit by advertising to Filipino multiply customers.
The definite Pro in this partnership is the possible additional revenues that the companies can earn.
Quoting the article "ABS-CBNi will sell advertising and mobile services for Multiply's Filipino users, with the two companies sharing revenues in the rapidly developing regional market. The partnership allows Multiply to monetize a significant portion of its traffic while still retaining a primary focus on product development and global customer acquisition."
As you might have noticed, there are a lot of Filipino users here in Multiply. ABS-CBN can take advantage of that number now.
I have friends who's primary language is different then mine, if I understand this right, this could mean a more user friendly Multiply for them.
No, not really. Filipinos can understand English perfectly well. They might not have the right grammar and pronunciation but they can still read and speak the language. Filipinos do not need websites to be translated in Filipino or Tagalog for them. Translating it would make it less user-friendly. Why? It is due to the fact that not all words can be translated well into the language.

wow..i just realized how this could be turn into something not even worth one's time to multiply, gain friends and business partners in the future. for those not wanting to carry abs-cbn ad there was a suggestion made by one guy to avoid it; for those who are anxious regarding personal stuff then never put something not intended for public viewing-just in case.
there are more important things happening.who cares about the war of these 2 networks anyways. but for this particular guy, who sounds very irritating mr.know it all crap who even mentioned about "third world country ......." shit man, pinoy ka.sobrang yabang mo.di ka naman si zobel nor si ayala or even si lopez to have the nerve to say things like that.come on, wake up! this is the real world and not your stupid notion regarding such a petty thing.
well abs cbn thinks that people on multiply are stupid enough to watch their telenovelas or wowowee! sorry abs cbn but i strongly believe that watching local tv even for an hour will make my i.q. go down a notch lower....

Note:I am not fighting for ABS-CBN or GMA
after reading all your comments.. it makes me laugh.. hehehe.. :D why are people saying i'm kapamilya or i'm kapuso? what gives you the right to say that? do you work for the company? I don't think so bec.you just watch their shows. It is just an advertising method to get the attention of all Filipinos. why if you're kapamilya, you cannot watch kapuso shows? we do not need to be affected with the so-called network war which by the way does not exist because we, the viewers, are thinking it exists.. people, in business, this is normal. it is called free competition. don't you see that their method is working.. you should really not be even affected because we are the consumers.
second.. what do you care about the partnerships.. people this is business.. some of you don't have common sense.. if you don't want kapamilya ads, then move out of multiply because this is their way of profiting from their expenses to keep this service FREE understand that people.. FREE .. do you think everything is free from this world? if there are no advertisements, then we don't even enjoy this kind of service..
and who says that multiply is the only one who can benefit from this? true, the companies in the philippines pay multiply to post their advertisement therefore money is going out of the philippines, but since multiply caters to a global market.. people from other countries might see the advertisements and might think of buying philippine products.. doesn't that make money go back to the philippines?
it also shows that philippines is becoming a competitive country in economic terms.. foreign companies tend to invest now money in our country which is a good thing.. it would help our peso-dollar exchange rate..
and before anyone contradicts me about this.. if you're gonna ask me then why are the prices still going up.. my answer would be this.. the price of a barrel of oil today in the global market is $98.. it doesn't mean that there is a low supply of oil but it means there is a greater demand ,because of the billions of people who are demanding oil like people in china and india, which will result in a shortage that will cause the price to go up.. thank god for the outstanding peso performance or else we will be seeing a P2 or even more increase in the prices of gasoline and LPG..
to mikeabundo: you're reasoning is stupid.. ABS-CBN ads?? hahaha.. don't ads from the ABS-CBN are also shown in GMA?? and how dare you say "third world" don't talk about "By siding with ABS-CBN, you've killed Filipino entrepreneurs' chances of advertising to Filipinos on Multiply." then you insult your fellow filipinos!! i can suggest something to you.. study first economics then come back and we'll see if you have the same idea you are fighting for.. oh yah.. so you agree with paul.. "Anyone who does not want to support ABS-CBN should move their content off Multiply." then get out! you call MULTIBADUY??? you are the one who's BADUY just accept that this is business!! don't be so close-minded! open your eyes to possibilities.. you say "Some people do not want to be part of the petty Lopez-Jimenez network war." you are a hypocrite because you are joing the war by telling people not to support abs-cbn.. i am not siding with abscbn but i am just rebutting all your stupid criticism..
to filipinos, let us all hope for the best for our nation. let us help it prosper and grow. and not stick yourself to petty problems that you, yourselves, create.. God Bless the Philippines!! :D
Ignore mikeabundo. While he does, to an extent, have a point, he's just here to do some blackhat SEO and linkbait everyone by stirring up some controversy, I'm afraid. He even admits to stripping his multiply account bare just for the sole purpose of luring everyone to his blog. Isn't that what trolls and spammers do all at the same time? Complaining and ranting and criticising everyone drives traffic to blogs and help them profit. It's nothing personal, I guess. Purely, uh, business.
PS: By linking to his blog entry, you just gave his blog a wee bit of help, Google PageRank-wise.
now i like it when you say "ang sarap kayang magiging JOLOGS" yup yep! you're right... Jologs in the way that everyone will understand you not in the way the they will hate you...
tsk tsk tsk....why bitterness? just because ABS is now on multiply? haizzzz....i'll be more interested in reading GMA's News and Public Affairs' write ups than watching their advertisements
this is business! the day we signed up with multiply, did they ask for signing fee? No! They have all the right to do partnership with any company! if you don't like the partnership, just delete your account with multiply and keep your mouths shut! And stop making stupid arguments! I'd pick ABS-CBN anytime, than any other network!
its not a matter of being abs-cbn or what ... dont u realize they are going to do what they did to folks out in youtube?? they are going to do the same thing here ... meaning ask your account to be suspended because you posted one of their shows episode or interview that you liked or admired and you wanted to blog it ... how about the audio's shared by their artists when sang live and you also wanted to blog that certain performance??? abs-cbn interactive is a site where you pay a monthly fee to view their videos because some of them are not shown in TFC ...
Good gravy... we have trolls, flames, and such just for the simple announcement that Multiply's adopting a new advertising partner? :o Uncalled for, methinks.
They apparently forget that Multiply has to earn its keep, if only for it to keep being free for the rest of us who want to put our online crappery somewhere but desire the convenience of having *most* of the tools already in place. Tsk.
Besides, if you don't want to see the ads (I for one don't like seeing ads, but I guess that's beside the point), there are solutions like Privoxy/Tor.
Multiply, this I say: do whatever you can to keep yourselves earning the needed cash. I only hope that you'll always remain a free and convenient place to write in. :)
A-ha... the shows posted as videos (and clips, for that matter). Seems a valid point. If you don't want it to be snooped around with, I guess there's always the option of restricting access, but that might considered (unwarranted?) censorship perhaps... in Filipino, masalimuot, tsong.
Maybe somebody should post the relevant parts of the ABS-CBN-Multiply agreement/contract/whatever someplace public, just so everything's clear to the rest of us. ;)

Agreed. If Multiply will conscript Filipino users into a network war, they should at least make clear the terms of conscription.

exactly so what's the use of posting for EVERYONE and NETWORK ... you'll just end up posting for your contacts or specific contacts ... isn't the purpose here in MULTIPLY is to share and find people to have some certain degree of interaction or what ... so you can also find your click??
by having them here, basically limits what you can do ... i signed up here at MULTIPLY because you can almost talk about anything under the sun (of course with certain degrees as well, plain etiquette) ...

Mr Edward1124: well said and I say that you have a great idea of convincing me that economics really works here....you are right of telling everyone that its just a part of business strategy on the net to expand partnerships....its rather a good sign that global competitions for filipino companies is prospering....
For those who wont be patronizing or get annoyed of ads from ABS-CBN, then get out of Multiply....as simple as that!!! anyway all the things we do here in this site is FREE!!!! Therefore, you are all FREE to get lost........
Filipinos should always think positively on this matter not just procrastinate and be negative to all the things that happens...
Sayang naman kung ganyan ang mentality nating mga Pinoy!!!!
multiply is free, it is a granted privilege to us users unless u opted for a paid-up account. this is a business deal. i don't think it matters all that much. there's too much ranting going on here. accept it na lang. multiply and abs already made the decision. if u can't live with that then find another option -- go find another multiply that will suit you. too much negativity won't get you anywhere. it's just a partnership. there were no specific mentions of discriminations or what have yous. stop the assumptions already!
Multiply is able to run its operations because it is able to pay its bills. Ads, from whoever wants to pay for space in Multiply, whether it's an advertiser we personally don't like or otherwise, serve that purpose.
Why stop an operation we are using from earning its keep just to get itself running? (To think we're using Multiply for free!)
Ads never bothered me. For starters, I log in to Multiply to do my own thing, to blog, to post music, to share photos, etc. I dare say I'm programmed to tune out other stuff that have nothing to do with my Multiply experience. Sure, sometimes I notice the ads but that's it. I did notice a rather flashy eTelecare ad a while ago and it didn't ruin my day, you know? I don't lose nor turn off my contacts, friends, and acquaintances just because there's an ad in there. Ads don't even lessen the joys of my blogging experience here. If the ad's there, let it be. Or you're not up to it, simply shrug it off and ignore. It's that simple.

I expect a global view of the social networking space, not a local hyperfocus that makes you look like you're desperately clinging to your last viable geographic market.
Very short reply.
You don't even have a single post here on Multiply. And now you are so active contradicting a good partnership news.
You're the epitome of being papansin, trying to achieve something since your achievements are extremely limited.
Oh and yeah, let's listen to the business expert here. Mike whose avatar is so unappetizing he should be shot.
This is a very skewed, tortured and exaggerated observation. This is an extremely retarded observation that you are solely applying to this ABS-Multiply issue. You are recommending strategies and moves like you're a successful as in super successful businessman who knows the work.
CNN, CBS etc all big networks do the same kind of partnerships, that's how the cookie crumbles and it doesn't necessarily means that you are working for the companies on the ads without consultation and the likes.
Your argument is so NAGMAMARUNONG-like, it's like your point is why don't ABS partners with YouTube Instead of Multiply? So if ABS partners with YoutTube, I will argue "why don't ABS partners with google exclusively?" DUH?!?!
Wow, that's so GURU of you, and you're bigger than Multiply? Hell no.
And if you seriously think Friendster and MySpace is better than Multiply, you're in deep trouble. I think you should re-enroll yourself on an e-commerce course, there's a cheap course in UP, I heard they're good, go back to school entrepreneur wannabe.
If you seriously think that Number of Users is the basis for a networking community's level of quality, you are in deep trouble. It's like you are saying that PerezHilton.Com is better than Yahoo because it has more visitors a day.
OpenSocial is not even on the brinks of being the Messiah of social networking or its concepts. Time is not running out for Multiply to first deeply analyze the OpenSocial Technology and using it as one of your pointers is quite shallow.
I rest my case, I suggest you go enroll yourself on any related courses so you can have a depth and untwisted opinion next time.
Wrong again, Angel. Yahoo gets way more visitors than Perez Hilton.
I can't see the link you gave. I'm not sure if it's real or my computer doesn't trust the incredible Alexa. Whatever, I hope you know the difference of unique homepage views PER DAY that doesn't count or consider repeat visitors as unique ones after certain number of hours, which at least I'm sure you do, just as how well aware you are that the perez-yahoo hits comparison is not my point to begin with and yet you still decided to justify that aspect instead of defending your idea of that quantity is better than quality.
that's nice to know that ABS-CBN is affiliated with multiply. and sa mga nag-aaway dyan, remember di lang mga pinoy ang nakakabasa nito. anything we say bad about our fellow countrymen reflects what kind of people filipinos are. peace out!

angelicumoda: don't mind him.. he is just here to make a scene.. It shows him as a KSP.. "kulang sa pansin".. he always repeats he will not use multiply and yet he is still actively using his multiply account.. and oh yah.. mike.. when I said "really?? then why are you still using your multiply account??" I meant account.. not your site.. i don't really care about your site... and if you will reply to this comment, then it means you are still using multiply.. hypocrite..
GREAT NEWS!!!..Thanks to the movers and shakers, you know who u are and also to Jojo, Eugene and more...hope the mp3 download will remain free for the multiply users.
When people are blessed the whole country will be blessed.God Blessed Philippines.Filipino are blessed people and so our country.A lot of Filipino people are successful wherever they go.Congrats!!
You're assuming that ABS-CBN ads are automatically more likely to be more relevant to more Filipinos. That sort of generalization is just insulting to Filipinos. It implies that we mindlessly swallow everything one local TV station throws at us. Just because an ad's from ABS-CBN doesn't mean it's relevant to me.
sir, i'm sure you're not in anyway related to boy abunda(joke lang po-pangpalamig ng ulo)! whenever i watch TV there are always commercial ads, i just don't watch them....
wait til joey de leon say something about it... he always...............................
Sa wakas pinoy pa rin ang sikat..huuuurrrraaayyyyyy..Pinoy ..keeep up the good worrrkkkkk....God bless you all..Bless talaga ang mga pinoy, so mga kapamilya keep on seeking God. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Upang ang ating Diyos ay laging nasa atin..Hows that mga kapamilya............
Wow! that's great! we have a circle of friends here in Japan who are using Multiply to keep in touch with our friends and relatives there in the Philippines and even USA. NOW!! KAPAMILYA!! your a part of us na!! CONGRATS!!
hmmm... well said and one more thing... my message to others... "IT'S JUST A F*****' ADD!!!" just ignore it if you don't like it! it's still the same! and i agree to them than the others. and DON'T REACT LIKE YOUR IN A MIDDLE OF A BIOCHEMICAL WAR OR GANG WAR FOR CHRIST SAKE! PLEASE?! If you got no biz with the add, leave it... and that's that!
That is BRILLIANT. I would appreciate if I can receive any news and be updated what is going on around the country. Thanks very much indeed to be on MULTIPLY. MABUHAY!!
funny people.. fighting over new ads. lahat naman ng free site may ganun.. if you don't like their ads just ignore them. kayo lang nagpapalaki ng issue. there's no war between abs and gma. only war between abs-fanatics and gma-fanatics. haha! tsk,tsk..
GREAT CATCH!!! Ang galing-galing naman........ my favorite PHILIPPINE TV Network joined me on my Globally MULTIPLY site. How could you resists this kind of opportunity...so, come on, join us now!!! Thanks for making this possible!!! ABS-CBN and MULTIPLY...more power.......God bless you guys....
Citizen In Service - Barangay Old Zaniga (Mandaluyong City) is very proud of ABS-CBN ... we will wait for other network in the Philippines to join MULTIPLY... Mabuhay tayong lahat PINOY!
I hope this will benefit all of us. The edge of ABS-CBN is that it has more reach on international viewers because of its TFC. This is the only filipino channel easily accessible abroad. I've seen it and really make you at home talaga even if you're in a different country...Though in the local market GMA pa rin siyempre :-)
this might be the sad news i'd read....tsk tsk... this tv network carrier can pose their interactive market strategy over multiply, who knows someday, there will be a prepaid card for multiply downloads or a charges for acquiring license to download stuff here... same thing happened to warrock game which initially started as free interactive game...hmnnnn.... another classic reality is... yun pinoybigbro ay hindi mo mapapanood ng free dito sa internet..aber?!? sana sa friendster na sila bumili ng rights, mas sisikat pa sila doon... hahahahahaha... otherwise, why not magcreate na lang sila, something original like ADD.com (addisyon.com kadirss, subtract.com divide.com, exponential.com, logarithmic.com) para mathematical yun dating or ala multilevel/networking...
siguro mag-aagree me if i-pull down yun fee ng 1Mbps broadband internet to P400.00 besides the existing P1600.00 average fee dito sa Pinas...yun na-save ko is pambayad sa abscbn charges (if they will impose) ..hehehe.... sa totoo lang, free music download (from napaka-generous members) ang best feature ng multiply kya now, di mo na mase-search yun music sa bawat members.... poor kid..tsk tsk..i missed the good old free days...
this is the first time i've read this and i'm very proud that i'm an ABS-CBN fanatic! For many years and beyond, cheers to ABS-CBN Kapamilya! The TRUE LEGAL AND IDENTIFIED PHILIPPINES' LARGEST NETWORK!
well abs really penetrate the market... high end and masa... hmmm nice for them..... I hope umayos na ang sigalot bet. GMA and ABS... kakarindi na kase mga pasaringan nila... sana may another channel na mag exist ka yang tapatan tong 2 to.... PEACE out
OMG!! Multiply will soon become biased to things in connection with ABS-stuffs!! Another deal for corp.scums.
PS: I'm neither ABS nor GMA.
[what's GREAT in that news, anyway? These are ABS-fanatics]
uhm... GREAT?! siguro po gaganda pa at dadame ang features ng multiply dahil sa pagPartnership...and in return, magkakaroon ng chance na mag-advertise ang ABSi ng kanilang Interactive products or anything related sa ABS..yun lang...hehehe
TFC, will always finds way of making OFW's life easier...and now they are in MULTIPLY...Welcome and were proud to be part on this site too...God Bless to ALL...
