Group administrators — and Multiply users of all kinds — that time is finally here. You know, the time at which we tell you that we have new features for you.
So now, we have... no, wait.
Now, you have...
Faster photo album browsing Multiply has always been a great place to enjoy others' photos (not to mention sharing your own), but doing so has never been quite this much of a breeze. As you browse through a photo album now, you'll notice photos loading pretty much instantly.
Group admin content control That's right group admins, the feature we recently announced is now available! If you run a group on Multiply, you can choose which kinds of content members can — and can't — share in the group. We really are looking to make your "job" easier. How else can we help?
Quicker replies If you use the dedicated "reply" links that appear alongside existing replies, you already know how these make it easier for others to follow conversations. Now we've gone and made these even more of a pleasure to use; click one and your reply box will appear instantly! Write your reply, click submit, and you're back to the original post in a snap.
Guestbook pages Are you really, really, ridiculously popular? Do people use your guestbook like a chat room? Are you sick of having to load every comment every time you view your guestbook? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you'll be pleased to know that we've made viewing your guestbook a lot easier by dividing it into easy-to-consume pages.
New e-mail alert format If you receive HTML e-mail alerts, you may have already noticed this one; these alerts now have a fresh new look! (If you don't currently receive e-mail alerts, you can enable them by clicking "settings" followed by "My E-mail Alerts.") Be sure to keep an eye out for the new photo album alerts in particular... the new layout is really nice.
We hope that your enjoyment of these new features ranks right up there with that of your current favorites. Be sure to let us know if it does (or doesn't), and keep us informed as to how you're using these new features!

Ok.. You have my list. LOL But in the meantime.. I'm going to enjoy all these!!
Thanks for all the improvements. The guestbook pagination and the reply changes are my favorites. Now if one could reply to a guestbook from the main page rather than the dedicated guestbook, I couldn't have anything significant to whine about!
But of course... Paginating the guestbooks makes that a lot less necessary!
Hello compulsive tweakers at Multiply! Would you care to make the comment boxes consistent in color so that I can actually see what people have written without having to highlight the text? So much to ask, I know!

Could you please provide a sample URL where you see the comments as unreadable? I suspect it might be due to a customized theme for a particular user or group, which is in that user's control.

That's AWESOME. Not only is it faster, but you don't have to scroll to click the next button each time.
Can you paste the URLs for the pages where you don't see "reply" links?
Of course. But, errrr... Publicly? I haven't found any where I see a reply link in the guestbook section of the main page. I'd rather not post my friends urls in a public place, if I can avoid it.
help...2325 replies in my comments that i had deleted have come back...over forty pages of them...I only wanted the 30 near the place you add them...is there anything that can be done to erase them...other than the one at aa time i've already done
well, I've made contacts with similar obscure tastes in rare and out-of-print music in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, parts of Southeast Asia and the US.... people I would have never met on Friendster or Myspace...
you can still upload but if someone post something like the Huns "Busy Kids / Glad He's Dead" single (old Texas punk) that sells for nearly $400 on eBay I want to be able to listen to it somewhere other than just on Multiply and only on my laptop and only when I'm online...
OK, so you're not unhappy because you're afraid you're not going to be able to keep in touch with people. You're unhappy because you can no longer download music you'd rather not buy because it's too expensive.
OK Guest book does load faster I am hoping it stays that way. But why take away being able to see when some one has view your blogs. There used to be something at the bottom that you could look at and see who viewed your blogs. A feature I happened to like. WHY DID THEY TAKE THAT?

I am in agreement. The no music thing is bullshit. I say more people should stop buyng music all together until the leave websites like this alone. Who cares if someone listens to a song on a website? They are not stealing it and copying and selling it here. Just listening to it. It is a very ignorant thing. IT IS CENSORING 100%
Who died and made you judge and jury of everyone here???? I access the internet on many different computers. I like being able to upload something at home and download it elsewhere if I'm traveling. My husband also has the right to share my music that I PAID FOR as well. Your condescending attitude is pathetic.

Thanks!! We are not used to things being made better!! IE 360!
Who died and made you judge and jury of everyone here????
His name was Donald, may he R.I.P.
If you want to upload something at home and download it elsewhere, no one is stopping you. I guess it would be more difficult to use Multiply for that, but why not use G-Mail or Yahoo Mail or some free file storage service, or your ISP if that's what you're really doing?
And by the way... How dare call me condescending. I'm offering people opinions and alternate solutions. You and mcdrunk are just insulting me and suggesting I fornicate with myself.
In reading this thread, I can't BELIEVE how EVIL people can get over NOT being able to STEAL MUSIC. LOL.. Ok... so go steal it elsewhere. Try shoplifting a CD at your local store and see how far out the door you get. It was not ok that you were already doing it here. You just got caught, that's all. And what's worse.. you're fessing up to it. In a public thread that will end up on GOOGLE along with your userid/name. lol

Could someone tell me HOW to do that please ? I can't work out how to get to that part on my group
Thank you, I've purchased more music in the past 3 months that I've belonged to my music interest groups then I have in the last 5 years. I've heard albums by bands I never would have listened to and then gone out and bought them. I'm a music lover I'm not a criminal.

That is FAST!!! I used to right click and open a new tab, but this is AWESOME!
Please bring back the Download function (in Music) instead of another unfriendly tweak! Is there something wrong about it? It SUCKS! I'm already complaining about it! Are those selfish record companies (or in my words, dinosaurs) asking for it? No wonder those guys want CENSORSHIP 100% here! Are they trying to penetrate here for Heaven's sake?
We really are looking to make your "job" easier. How else can we help?
I know this was likely a figure of speech, but -- create second-tier moderators. The group owner would be able to designate the new appointee's powers. I'd have more mods in my groups if I had the guarantee that they couldn't delete the group.
I'd call that condescending.... and I do use other methods but Multiply has by far been the easiest to meet others of like minded tastes...
I'd call that direct. Not tainted with animosity or rudeness. Just to the point.
Your statement, "Multiply has by far been the easiest to meet others of like minded tastes..."
That's very interesting. The only thing that has changed today is the ability to download music. Your ability to find others with similar tastes, and interact with them, is unaffected. In fact... Removal of the download link encourages you to interact on a personal level to trade music, rather than anonymously download it from their page in a drive-by fashion.
No wonder those guys want CENSORSHIP 100% here! Are they trying to penetrate here for Heaven's sake?
Erm, no -- Multiply is covering its butt from a lawsuit by a record company because users use Multiply to pirate music. Not only could you, the pirate be sued, but Multiply could be sued, and it doesn't have the deep pockets to fight that off.
Removal of the download link encourages you to interact on a personal level to trade music, rather than anonymously download it from their page in a drive-by fashion.
That's true -- you have to actually interact with folks to commit crimes. It's a shame!
I can only speculate because I have seen nothing official, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that the new incarnation is what will remain. Upload? Sure. Download? No.
Another observation. Another good place for pagination would be for blog post comments or PM replies.
NO!! DON'T DO THAT!!
That sucks the life right out of LiveReplies, that is, pagination of the blog post comments or even PMs. No, do not do that... it will really hurt the community, I think. I had some high-commenting blogs on 360, and nothing was more annoying than flipping through those flipping pages. Guestbook comments aren't a continuous conversation, so that's bearable.
I'm interested in nearly unattainable and out-of-print vinyl recordings by obscure bands/artists...
Alot of my vinyl is outta print also. Meaning no vinyl, no cd, no tape not a damn thing. I completely agreed with mcdrunk. It's not a matter of going out to buy the album. It's a matter of finding the record and sharing it.
I guess I only have one last comment to all of those that have accused others of "stealing" music. It is not stealing if it is their own private use. IF they plan to make a CD and sell it, then it is stealing. I know all the big lying hype that EVERYONE is stealing music and they are not making any money. But that is also a lie. How many millions do you have to make before you say that you are losing money to internet theft? It is the lamest and most pathetic thing that ANYONE can agree with the big music industry and accuse people of "stealing" music for their own personal use. So soon people forget that you used to be able to tape it off the radio and listen to it any time you wanted. And still can. The idea that the BIG MUSIC INDUSTRY is losing money from this is a pathetic and lame way for them to try to make more money. So it is my opinion that it is not stealing it is a very pathetic attempt of the music industry trying to be control freak arseholes.
go f* yourself... no one should have to pay $400 for 2 songs.... I'm not downloading the latest major label crap by Brittney or whatever morons listen to... I'm interested in nearly unattainable and out-of-print vinyl recordings by obscure bands/artists...
$400 for two songs? Dude, you're getting ripped off.
How are you going to get vinyl from downloading off of Multiply? I didn't know my computer could burn 45s...
Besides, if they're nearly-unattainable, how are they here, on public domain?
Who died and made you judge and jury of everyone here???? I access the internet on many different computers. I like being able to upload something at home and download it elsewhere if I'm traveling. My husband also has the right to share my music that I PAID FOR as well. Your condescending attitude is pathetic.
Stealing music is taking it from someone who is sharing. Sharing was putting it up here for someone else to steal.. and share. Regardless of the names you want to call it, it's illegal to SHARE, AND it's against the TERMS here.
WOW as a long time very early adopter and mega supporter of Multiply and a paid Platinum member I am disgusted that Music downloads have been nixed!?

Dammit, dantcer, it's my God-given right to steal music!!! God wrote on the back of that tablet that I was entitled to, and I'll take full advantage of that! I bet that George Washington stole a harp from the New York Philharmonic in his hey-day! FREE SPEECH lets me steal music! And so does the right to bear arms! And the right for women to vote!! I wanna steal music!
Now that I'm done ranting, off to the CD store... *hums*
For those of you without the humor gland, that was a joke.
I guess I only have one last comment to all of those that have accused others of "stealing" music. It is not stealing if it is their own private use. IF they plan to make a CD and sell it, then it is stealing.
Erm, so you're telling me that if I jacked your car tomorrow, but drove it for myself until I ran it into the ground, that's legal?
Seriously folks.... we all know that those that are angry now were doing it here because it was easy with download links. You will do it elsewhere anyway if you aren't already. You just won't be "using" Multiply to do it. Regarding only having something in vinyl... ? Everything though rare is on CD. Or you can rip it to CD. And there IS legal music to download online. Just look for it.
If it was the same then you know how that would be. But it is not anything like that. Yes YOU should be able to, just as people were able to and still can record on tapes and play it in their tape players. It is not illegal for your own personal use that way. So what is the difference? For 20 years people have been able to tape off of their radios and play it in their cars. Now all of a sudden that is illegal? No.
Like south park. LOL "O I guess we will only be able to fly our #1 lear jet and not the #2. It is really pathetic.
In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include:
the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
Fair use is not putting something up for your friends (or strangers) and getting away with it because you're not charging for it. That's a joke. A bad joke, and one that is insulting to what Fair Use is meant for.
Just one last question: if it's illegal to share (music), and it's against the terms here, why this disgusting crime was allowed here before?
Or have you discovered it was illegal just now???
It was allowed because Multiply wanted to give people with their own music to share with the masses an opportunity to do so.
If the masses had used it in that manner--or even if it was just primarily in that matter and the pirates had been the exception to the rule, this would be a non-issue.
But Multiply overestimated the ethics of the community.
Only tested this on one of them so far, but others are complaining about this. Older paginated comments in guestbooks aren't deleting. It walks you through all the steps, you THINK it works... it throws you back to the first current page (which is a pain)... You go back to where you were, and it's still there. So this seems to be a glitch. I reported it to CS. (Hopefully too they can fix that.. throw you back to page one issue)..
Dantcer, "...people with their own music to share with the masses an opportunity to do so..." well... these people have an excellent place to do that: at MY SPACE.
By the way, at My Space, everyone can still (not STEAL) download music.
