Perhaps the most notable new feature we released last week was our new streamlined photoviewing experience.
While your experience might vary (based on the speed of your Internet connection), some really cool technologies, like Ajax, exist under the hood to make split-second load times possible on even an average-speed Internet connection.
This, basically, means photos load about as quickly as you can click. Count to zero and... well, you get the idea.
Viewing photos with unprecedented speed is all well and good, but let's not forget the other stuff you expect from the photo experience on Multiply, like adding faceboxes, full-size zoom and adding replies. They all still work as you'd expect.
If you're not seeing faster loading times, JavaScript may be disabled in your browser (this probably applies to very few people), but there's no need to worry! While you won't get the full benefit of these new features without JavaScript, you'll still be able to enjoy photo albums just as you always have.
Hi guys, I noticed that new images loaded that exceed the height of 500 pixels get resized and this new version is heavily compressed... resulting in bad image quality. Anybody else experienced this?
Here's an example GIF I saved to illustrate - it's a 200% enlarged cropped that shows 3 secs of before & after resizing
Further investigations revealed that the image quality varies from case to case (from my older, pre-upgrade by multiply)
For example, this one shows the same image quality issue (loaded back in August)
Whereas, this one was loaded in Jan'08 - the quality is pretty consistant
I like how fast it's gotten! I was just wondering, though, if there was a possible way to change the color of the navigation toolbar (the one with the zoom, add facebox, etc.) because the yellow looks weird compared to my color scheme.

i would love if the photos are displayed after they are completely downloaded. i do not like looking at a pixelated image while waiting. lightbox is worth looking at.
I'm using dial-up here. You have no idea how much this fast uploading and viewing is helping me. *smile* It used to be so difficult and LONG for me to view my friends' photo album thus hindered me from posting my replies. Now? Way cool!!!
Thanks for this new feature multiply it rocks!!! one thing though, when i click one picture [in zoom in] it loads to another page and the pic was there could it be possible to turn it off?

yep, hate the pixelation part! makes you brace yourself for an upcoming blurry photo.gets me pissed that I bothered to wait for a sucky photo, then get pissed for being so negative, then for being wrong, then for being pissed. one big pissing cycle for each photo... just when I got used to not bracing myself for a photo that wont load, ha ha...I need a doctor...
I have a very slow dial-up connection, and this has made my photo-viewing so much faster and more enjoyable. Thanks, guys! Replying is easier, faceboxing is easier, and the zoom is very good.
I have enjoyed the ease in adding photos here...I'm sure the improvements are great! Since coming to Multiply, I have enjoyed many new things that we did not have access to on our other site. However, I wish we had our Automatic, Random Play option back on our media players. If folks can't hear our music without a lot of clicking to get it working, and then, hearing the same song, time after time once they get it working,....well, it doesn't make sense for us to post songs if folks won't come listen because of all the hassles. Is there anything we can do??
I wanted to THANK you for the guestbook newly added feature! You're over 450 replies.. and it won't open for me on THAT blog! lol. I just joined in October.. and have over 3400 comments on my front page.. and it's WONDERFUL to have them open up incrementally!! Thank you for all that you do!! Y'all just ROCK!! And.. you just keep adding stuff.. that makes blogging FUN!! I haven't had a chance to play with the photo albums to much.. but, I DO love them!!

What a joke! Still not addressing why you felt no need to notify members of major changes to the site huh? No surprise, you have the membership now, now you can get rid of the things that brought the majority of your members here in the first place. Who cares what we think, it doesn't matter now does it? It's a shame that Multiply resorts to sending their little gestapo clones into the threads to try to calm everybody down instead of talking to us or notifying us themselves about what they are doing. You may have done yourselves in this time and I really hope that is the case for the treatment we have received as members here. Word of mouth spreads pretty quickly and I for one will be spreading the word.

I love this site, it's wonderful. I do have one recommendation. I have NO clue on how to write CSS. I do like the "Customize colors" theme. Sometimes I like to put my own background on my site. It's easy to use the Customize colors. Only one thing I would really appreciate is that we can use our own banners for Customizing without knowing CSS. You have Pictures for the background so we can upload to our site. Can you somehow add Title Banner picture to upload? It would be an easy click.
I do go on the Customized themes from time to time. But...I get bored with some of them at times. Very talented people on there, but there are times it just takes to long for some of their stuff to load on my page.
How about helping those who want add a little bling without knowing all the tech stuff. You do have people from all walks of ages using Multiply. :)
Yep! me too... how can we disable the Add Facebox Thingy?... I can always double-click the picture if I wanted to add facebox... and yeah! also I noticed that the image quality REALLLYYYY suffers a lot after the upgrade.
When I'm in someone's post and click on an individual picture, it does come up. I wouldn't say it's fast but it comes up. My problem begins when I use the back button or click my mouse to go from that picture back to the person's post. Instead of going back to the person's post, I get taken all the way out into my mailbox. It's very frustrating. Please make it stop or tell me how to correct this problem.

I'm tempted to say it already is both things. Could you describe how you're seeing it to not be?
If you have Java installed in your browser, you can upload your photos with a simple drag-and-drop... and even resize them before uploading to make for a quicker upload. (That's the Java uploader.)
If you don't, there's the Multiply toolbar that also allows easy drag-and-drop uploading, for Internet Explorer or Firefox.
And, um, there's post via e-mail. Your "upload" speed will be as fast as your internet connection allows.
In the old version I could ctrl-click the thumbnails and the picture would load in a new window / tab. In the new version you have to use the back button a lot which completely negates any speed gain in this method. Besides that, with a large album it can be annoying to near impossible to scroll down and find where you left off. We just need a link or some way to get to the photo from the thumbnail via link.
From what I see you can't DISABLE most of the crap that Multi-Lie has forced on us lately. If we the members don't like it I guess they figure too bad. Now THAT is customer service!
When you click on a specific picture, see it, and then you click "back", the system takes you to the photos page instead of taking you back to the same album you were seeing, that didn't happen before.

What's important isn't that it's a Mac, but what browser is being used.
It works just fine for me. I got no probs with it at all. In fact, the new zoom feature makes my screen caps even better because they are high quality to start with. :-)
correct me if im wrong, but i think this new feature only works when we view our own uploaded pics, but when we view somebody else's, whew, back to old school photo viewing.
I think everything you do is wonderful and geared at making our FREE experience good. I don't understand when I see complaints because you are constantly evolving and working to make things better. I understand that you have to think of people who are still on dial up and have lots of other considerations when you make these changes. Coming from Y!360 where no one listens and no upgrades are being made I really appreciate the fact that you listen and was shocked and pleased that you actually do. I don't see anyone twisting any arms to make the complainers stay. I for one am happy with Multiply, no matter what changes you make. It is the best social network I have seen to date.
I have Java... the latest version and have found the 'new' feature to be utterly useless. I prefer the 'old' way, which comes up invariably when "java can't be found." Heck, my whole work platform is java based.
But all in all, the site is awesome. I just wish that when you do "upgrades" or "maintenance" that the entire site wouldn't go wonky until you 'fix' the 'issues' later on or the next day.
Don't get me wrong - multiply is 1000% better than any other networking site I've seen. :-)
Make sure you have java and javascripting enabled in the browser you are using. Firefox works better but you do have to enable these two things for all features to work properly.

I miss both the music downloads and ability to see photo album content thumbnails in groups. They still seem to work on private pages but I seem to be locked into slideshows on group sites.
not that this is helpful because all the things that I have been sufferring with this update has been raised... .. to this date i'm looking at other places to upload/share my stuff.. facebook.. but then.. this is better than facebook in view...
and the idea of erm.. say networking i like so i won't set my own site up even though i got one already...

In my opinion, it's a bit ugly, nothing to do with the lean way from before. If it could be made a little less agressive and a bit more elegant and discreet, i'd like it more!
I don't know if this problem is related to the update since it only started a few days ago, but I figure I'll post it here anyway since it's photo album related.
The problem occurs whenever I try to view the full sized version of the photos in one of my albums. When I click "zoom in", I get a large blank space where picture is supposed to be. This only started happening a few days ago. Prior to that, everythng worked normally.
The funny thing is, all my other albums seem to be fine. It only seems to be a problem with the most recent photo album I put up.
Other than this, I don't really have any complaints. Some have already mentioned the problems people have with using the browser's "back" button, so I don't really need to elaborate on that. Otherwise, thanks!

I think the photo browsing is slow. And this new photo-uploading thing hangs and it's infuriating that it hangs in the middle of all the photo upload --- AFTER you've placed all the titles for the photos, it hangs it you lose it all!
when i post replies on a specific photo, there's usually an option to ask you if you'd like to post the reply with the photo.. now, it doesn't for me, so only the comment is posted, and no photo. would any of you know how to help me? what should i check or tweak? thanks!
ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL: For all we know, we love music. any trends, hyper or mellow, so that's why we are the ones who patronize this site. But the bad news is, the multiply system updates their strict policies when it comes to music. so that's why the system DELETES all DIRECT DOWNLOAD. As of my own observation, those music that previously uploaded remains the same & aside from the fact that it seems its SO VERY UNFAIR when MULTIPLY "DISABLES" it when if someone's visiting in other multiply site & attempting to download of that content. Well, either we personalized our privacy content but if u check those sites who are in the other way of posting in PUBLIC mode, no icons of "DOWNLOAD" appears! if you are concerned for this matter, spread this message to everyone!
