Blog EntrySurvey: Working with PhotosMar 11, '08 6:03 PM
for everyone
Remember that survey we recently posted, asking for your thoughts and feedback? Well, we received such overwhelmingly positive responses, helpful feedback and — to our surprise — even requests for another survey, that we've come up with another opportunity for you to express your feelings about Multiply by answering multiple-choice questions! :-)

This time we're interested in learning more about the way Multiply users take, store and organize their photos.

To take the new survey, simply click here.

And, as always, we thank you for your feedback!

Done!

It would be nice to have an integrated photo editor on Multiply. I have been using the one from my digital cameras and iPhoto but this sounds cool. I'm still not sure about uploading them automatically to Multiply though.

Thanks for doing it.

Only the hi resolution photos are deleted after six months IF no one orders them. Your original uploaded picture is still here.

http://multiply.com/info/faq/498

Are my high resolution originals kept on the site forever?
Only if someone has ordered prints of your photos within the last 6 months. After you upload photos, we re-size them for display purposes on the site. The re-sized versions are kept permanently. However, if no one has ordered prints of your photos for 6 months after uploading, we may remove the hi-res originals to free up disk space and ensure the best possible site performance.

the question about photo-editing (or photo mgmt) apps should allow multiple selections. Depending on the type of photo and what is needed, I may use multiple apps - Picasa, PhotoShop, and even Flickr. I also use other utils to set tags/captions/etc. before uploading to Flickr Pro for offline high-res storage.
slvrdlphn wrote on Mar 12
As far as I know, they don't "dump the photos". They remove the hi-res versions but retain the regular versions.

I stopped half way through this survey after 3 questions had occurred where my answer should be either at least 2 of the options or other, when other was not a given option.

Why can you not allow us to check more than one box if more than one answer applies?

I wish we could copy blogs and paste them directly into a Multiply blog. "Does not accept Java Script" pops up when you do that.

What does this have to do with photos? Well, I just wrote a mega blog with 34 photos in 360. And now in order to get it to Multiply, I have to manually put in every photo over here all over again.

On top of that, in most cases the photo you add goes to the top of the blog, then you need to either cut and paste, or drag it to the space you want it in.

This has been more of a frustration than 360 because on 360 it is a snap to copy blogs and articles with images. Here, it is not.

This is why it is related to this inquiry.

You are trying to paste something with hidden code. Just paste it into notepad first and it should strip that hidden javascript code. Or use an html stripper.

This is yahoo's fault, and not Multiply. Yahoo doesn't allow hotlinking to images there (which is what c/p'ing is.)

Multiply does allow hotlinking.
camswitzer wrote on Mar 12
dantcer - I've tried many a time. It is one of the biggest pains to go in and try to FIND that hidden code and take it out. Believe me, I have tried on many occasions. In the end, I have to spend about three times the amount of time it would take to just rewrite the entire thing.
dantcer wrote on Mar 12
Just paste it in notepad first. The paste from there. If that doesn't do it, the html stripper will. :)
dantcer wrote on Mar 12, edited on Mar 12
You don't have to manually do any of it. Compose your blog in notepad and it won't happen. But if you compose it in Word, Word adds that extra hidden macros and code.
camswitzer wrote on Mar 12
Were you on 360 in the past? I guess you were. Do you remember the big beta upgrade they did Jan 2007 and how all of the formatting we used to be able to do outside of the blog (too dangerous to type a blog inside that blog window these days, even Multiply) was totally destroyed? That's when I really lost interest in 360. It ruined everything.

By the way, nice to make your acquaintance. Funny we should do it here, over on the big boys' blog.
camswitzer wrote on Mar 12
BTW, notepad, being a text editor won't take photos. So if I compose on notepad, then I have to go and add all the photos in manually in the blog afterward. And then once that is done, I would have to take the notepad text, paste it into the other blog, and then add all the photos in again manually. I just tried pasting my blog into notepad, and it scrubs off (of course) all of the photos that exist in the blog. So, I would be left with having to manually put them all back in.

Also, with 360, I can go to Flickr, copy a picture and paste it right in. In Multiply, I have to go to Flickr, right click, properties. then manually highlight the link, copy that, go back to Multiply and click the insert photo, then from the web, then insert that, then choose where I want to put it, and then... in many cases it puts it at the top of the blog so I am left with either cutting it and pasting it back in where I wanted it to go, or dragging it through the blog until I get back to where I want to put it. That's Multiply. 360 gives you simple copy, paste. blam. done.
dantcer wrote on Mar 12
LOL @ "big boys blog". (Looks around for those big boys) lol

No, I've never "done" yahoo. lol Yes, I understand the photo add thing and how it works here now for blogs. Perhaps an uploader for blogs similar to the albums section would work better (if there could be such a thing) so that you don't have to add them one by one (drag and drop). For now there is no way around that. (ALTHOUGH) I haven't tried the "two window" trick. Hmm... I feel an "ah ha" moment coming on.

But you still need to position photos after pasting a blog, regardless. Which I prefer to do since formating can look differently once you save it to draft.

(I need to go do a quick test on my "ah ha"!!)
dafty2203 wrote on Mar 12
Done. Nice to have inspiration pics in doing designs
dantcer wrote on Mar 12
OK, THIS SO WORKS!! :D

Host your photos here first. Then open two windows. One is your blog, the other is your album. Make them side by side. Then just drag and drop your images from the album, where you want them into your blog!! :D

camswitzer wrote on Mar 12
Let me give you the Yahoo link and you'll see why I don't want to be pasting every photo all over again in Multiply... I should have just done this first in Multiply because I can then copy the entire blog and "blam" paste it into 360 effortlessly. Sort of. 360, since Jan 2007 scrubs off all paragraph breaks. So, for every break, I have to go back in and put in a stupid . period mark. It didn't used to be like that. We used to be able to write even in outlook express, change fonts, sizes, colours, everything and copy and paste. It was glorious. But as of Jan 2007, once you paste that in, it would ALL disappear.
camswitzer wrote on Mar 12, edited on Mar 12
Here is the blog that I SHOULD have done in Multiply first (but didn't because everyone reading these adventures of Angie, are in 360 and not multiply.)

Two things I'd like back though:
1. Used to be, when you were viewing your own album, you could click on Edit Photo and it lets you edit that single photo. Now it brings you to the Edit Album screen. That's irritating because I really just want to edit that one photo (its caption, rather).
2. Used to be, when you were looking at the thumbnails and clicked on one photo to enlarge it then clicked the browser's [back] button, it brought you to where you were in the thumbnails. Now it brings you to the top of the page. You realize how inconvenient that is when you're viewing an album that has more than a hundred photos and you're near the end?

Go into HTML mode on 360 (tick the box) and copy the HTML
Then come here and tick the HTML box on Multiply ..paste and that's it done easy
I know I've done it I saved all my 360 blogs in HTML mode and have been pasting them into Multiply

The deletion of Hi res photos after six months is nothing new. Everyone seems to act like it is, but this has always been the case. :/ Is it (and I don't design themes so I don't know).. necessary to use the hi res photos for themes?

It was mentioned elsewhere (or suggested) of a possible exemption for themes groups but again, even that has it's problems. How do you or your group "qualify" for this exemption? How do you enforce posting guidelines in these groups to qualify when we can't get most at Customized Themes to supply images (and in some cases working links elsewhere for the darn images?) How do you get admins to spend every waking moment enforcing the posting guidelines to keep from having an exemption taken away?

Glad it won't be me. :/

Dave confirmed at a post at Refugees that Customized Themes would be exempt. I don't think that any other group should be allowed to do that -- Customized Themes works fine. If people want their hi-res pics, Linda, they'll start posting at CT.

I am posting this here because I want to be heard.

To whom it may concern:

With all due respect, I don't have that song (Rihanna - Umbrella ft. Jay-Z) on that playlist, or any other playlist I've uploaded. I have never uploaded that song on my multiply account. And in addition, any music I've uploaded are for my contacts only. I don't add strangers, so my contacts consist of family and friends. I don't upload music to share with other people. I do it for me, and to let my contacts know what I've been listening to. That's what this option is for, am I right? Otherwise, you won't even have this feature available. And if this is a cause for concern, maybe you should just delete this feature altogether, instead of threatening me or anyone with account cancellation. I use this account to share personal photos and videos with family. I have uploaded over 100 photo albums. And I use this site for my personal blogging. Again, if my account is going to be cancelled because a feature that you made available for us, then maybe it's time for me and my friends and family to use another site. I would also like to know how you were able to view this playlist since it is FOR CONTACTS ONLY. Do we not have any privacy here? Can you view my private blogs as well? If this is the case, then maybe I SHOULD change sites since my privacy is obviously compromised here. I don't think I'm out of the line here. I am really upset by all this, and I expect a reply.

ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL: For all we know, we love music. any trends, hyper or mellow, so that's why we are the ones who patronize this site. But the bad news is, the multiply system updates their strict policies when it comes to music. so that's why the system DELETES all DIRECT DOWNLOAD. As of my own observation, those music that previously uploaded remains the same & aside from the fact that it seems its SO VERY UNFAIR when MULTIPLY "DISABLES" it when if someone's visiting in other multiply site & attempting to download of that content. Well, either we personalized our privacy content but if u check those sites who are in the other way of posting in PUBLIC mode, no icons of "DOWNLOAD" appears! if you are concerned for this matter, spread this message to everyone!
