Coffee! While most of us like it — though others get their caffeine fixes from tea, soda or (gasp) not at all — its role in keeping our eyes open and fingers tapping keyboards should not be understated.
We've been through our share of nearby locations of multinational coffee chains and in-house coffee makers over the years at Multiply, and while each dutifully delivered acceptable doses of caffeine, none have been without their drawbacks.
Initially, we were using a commercial-grade coffee maker. There were no complaints then, but brewing an entire pot at once had obvious disadvantages: different people like their coffee at different times of the day, and leftover coffee would either get cold if the machine were turned off, or burn if left on, not to mention develop a decidedly unappealing layer of film at the top if left to sit for long enough.
Fortunately, there are a wealth of single-cup makers on the market, but the first one we bought... kind of sucked. It made coffee from pods, which, in theory is a nice and convenient way to make a single cup, but most of us found the coffee it made to not be all that great. We suffered with it for a while until recently when it, mercifully, broke.
We recently replaced it with the hybrid-type model pictured above, which brews single cups from either grinds or pods. The pod people get to use the pods, and the people with taste get to use their choice of ground beans. :-)
And everyone, regardless of their choice, gets to push cool buttons that light up with a futuristic blue glow... which, um, also let you set options for how you like your coffee.
Everyone is reportedly now happy with their caffeine fix, if not a bit jumpy... though not unproductively so.
Single cup brewers are the best! I have a Kureg, which uses K-cups - and you can buy those from almost every brand of coffee out there :)
How soon we forget! We actually had one of those machines too (albeit briefly), but weren't thrilled with the variety of k-cups we tried. Guess we thought it was endemic of the medium...
this is the second time i've seen someone blog about these single cup coffee machines. i've got to get me one! i just brewed a pot of coffee, but i'll probably be the only one that drinks it.
As a recent tourist to the USA i now understand the importance of coffee in all its forms to production of anything in your country. Having seen in the stores the importance of the hot berverage (average 75ft of shelving space) and its myriad of forms vanilla, columbian, kenyan, hot roast, mild blend. bank of 25 types of beans so you can blend your own. I was bewildered and had to resort to what i know as an English woman lol instant (i can hear you all choking on your mocha chocca lattes as i speak) There was however an area i can claim to be superior. In 3 weeks on tour in the USA with my partner we didnt get one classic brit cup of tea lol. Tea just black hot tea (PG is good) put the bag in the cup add a little milk on top then add hot water lol and sugar to taste. Strong hot and ruggedly refreshing. Though i must admit to doing some more research on USA and its coffee habits lolk
It's all good, provided it's not that bastardization of the coffee beverage referred to as "instant!"
/me shudders
I'm giggling here ~ instant is practically all I drink! I live on my own right now, and a pot of the brewed stuff does tend to change it's taste over the day. And as much as I love brewed coffee, I can't drink a whole pot in a couple of hours! :)
Walks in, rummages around for Hazelnut blend, brews a quick pint to chug , and dash out at .98%C leaving a swirl of flying paper in his wake. WAAAAHOOOOO !
WOULD OR COULD DONATE BAGS OF COFFEE FROM ITALY & New Zealand
COME ON LADYS & GENTLEMAN - Lets all send bags of coffee if we are able to MULTIPLY so they can sample all the coffes,s from around the world depending on laws of shipping the items over cause of diseses bans ect * _ *
I Can smell a New Coffee shop operning in Boca Raton *_* - Remember the U.S.A Loves Coffee
Whatever the coffee maker and brand is...I always enjoy the coffee... and really Multiply has made my brain like coffee flows to browse...Thank you Multiply... I'd prefer the pure of HOT JAVA COFFEE... (not Java as the code or Java as a program ..Lol)...Javanese coffee.....
I have a Flavia machine, which uses it's own single-cup filterpacks. Upside is it's very convenient, and can do fancy cappucinno, moccachino, etc stuff. And because the individual packet is sealed until you brew, it's always very fresh.
Downside -- a finite selection of coffees available in their proprietary filter pouches, which you have to mail-order. (or online-order). I can't use any of the several really fantastic local roasters. (But it is actually very decent coffee, and it can even do fancy cappucinnos, moccahinos, carmelchinos, espresso, really good cocoas, and even teas...)
As a developer here at Multiply I object to this thread - nay - to the very existence of this puny machine. Perhaps Customer Service reps are satisfied with its mediocre output and bedazzled by its light of blue, but hard core developers demand elegance, sustenance and power.

I use Gevalia coffee and brewer...12 cups a pop...don't need to brew the entire pot to pour a cup...it'll stop automatically. I have all flavors of coffee...from the strong regular to several different flavors.
There are quite a few of the instant coffee machines in the malls and some offices here in Manila and I have seen a few of those per cup brewing machines at international airports. I believe there are some call centers here that have a similar machine. They, like good ol Multiply, exist on caffeine, too, hehehe.

I have some plans to integrate this app with IBM WebSphere Portal 6 they really need similar app for their platform. This whole site is served through Apache on unix but the structure is really very close to that of sharepoint + custom webparts. Simply this site is great :)
I didn't want to have to do this, but you people leave me little choice.
As is well known, we developers are generally content operating in the background; in fact we take pride in an elegant design where you are not even aware of our presence.
The reason you like your new-fangled blue-led-irradiated coffee so much?
The dirty little secret is out. Your single-serve closed source whosamawhatsit coffee is based on the power of the open-pour HB-D60012.
At our office, we solved the problems with machines that drip straight into insulated vaccum pump pots... No burned dregs, no cold stale coffee, no freaky film, and it stays plenty hot longer than the potful lasts. (We have plenty of Developers and Quality Engineers and DBAs needing regular super-leaded fuel...)
Now, if someone could just invent a machine to slap people silly when they empty the pot, and don't start a new one....
Hmmm... well I have solved this problem with my Coffee IV set up by my computer. Somehow the subject of this caffinated joy juice makes its way into my blogs on a regular occurence.
LOL That's brilliant. The commercial one looks very similar to the one used at my company, only ours has spots for four pots. It brews what I call "leaded sludge." With 3 pots worth of grains put in the filter for every pot, sludge is what it looks like, and lead is what it feels like in the stomach. Yet all we on third shift drink it anyway just to get through the night.
Before working full-time third shift, I never was a big coffee drinker myself. Coke has always been my drug of choice --- the soda, not the powder!

*GASP* - Don't tell me someone actually drinks from the decaf pot!
What on earth do you do if more than one person wants a coffee? In our office the meeting rooms have flavia machines which make very nice coffee, but if you're in a room with a dozen people it takes ages hanging about to get a coffee, and as for the members room which grinds the coffee before it brews it...... Sorry, a coffee driven meeting needs a big jug in the middle of the table!
It has nothing to do with the coffee maker unless you mean the person being the coffee maker :) ........it does matter if the pot has been cleaned or not tho............for some good info on making coffee,,,, I have a blog I wrote long ago.
I used to work at a place that sold beans long before it was popular, I learned a few things. Everyone that has done it the way I say.......just loves the coffee they make now.
teeheehee, shhhh, don't tell - I make 2 pots (10 cup per pot size) every morning, drink a couple or three cups while I get ready for work, then pour the rest into my trusty Large silver pump thermos, carry it off to work, and its usually finished before I leave work - Then as soon as I get home, I have another cup or three, and on the really bad days, I drink a cup before bed, just so I can get to sleep! :)
I am thinking of creating a EASY ACCESS angle finance and VC network. Is it possible for you people at multiply help me by getting me the right contacts.
I am, sad to say, addicted to coffee..lol Love the stuff! Love Multiply too, and looks like I may be getting addicted to it. Its nice to have a place where I am treated with respect, and my needs are met, unlike some other places, which I will not mention at this time..lol
So as I sit here, sipping on my cup of coffee, I am hoping that your coffee maker gets the same mileage that mine has given me. Going strong for 3 years now!
lmao! You should get one like I got for Christmas.. it talks to me.. REALLY! Durn thing will drive you crazy.. the latest in crazy gadgets!! roflmao. My hubby saw it.. and knew.. it was a GREAT gift!!

Just as I thought "Junkies" run this! too much coffee makes you want to fix things................................. time for the Valium dispenser before the next update!
I recently joined Multiply and now I am addicted. Can't say that I am addicted to coffee, which I am not. But I also got a Cappresso machine two months ago... the coffee is SOOOO much better and bec it dispenses coffee in a carafe, it stays hot a bit longer!
BTW, I had the chance to taste 3-in-one coffee by Nescafe, during my visit to the Philippines. YUCK! That was the most disgusting coffee I had ever tasted!
I use instant coffee since I am the only one who drinks it and I have my one cup per day. It would be cool to have our coffee light up with a futuristic blue glow. ;D
