We recently introduced a feature called "tags". A lot of people are
using the feature and really liking it, but others have told us they're
still not quite sure how tags work or why they should use them. We
thought it might be helpful to say a little bit more about tags and
what you can do with them.
Let's start with the basics... what
are tags, anyway? It's really simple. Tags are keywords you can use to
organize your posts and make it easier to find what you're looking for,
especially when you have tons of stuff on your site. Using tags is
similar to using folders on your computer to organize your documents.
The main difference between folders and tags is that a document can
only be in one folder, but you can categorize a post using many
different tags, by adding multiple tags to a single post.
Check out Peter's Greek Easter photos for an example of a post with a few tags. While you're there, scroll to the bottom of the album and click on the Dimitri tag to see all the other stuff Peter's posted about his cute kid!... and to see how tags work.
Not
only do tags help you organize your stuff so it's easy to find things,
they also make it more fun and interesting to visit someone else's
site. Suppose you saw Peter's Greek Easter album on the Messages page,
and opened it. Maybe you agree with Peter that Dimitri is the cutest
kid in the world :-) so you clicked on the Dimitri
tag when you saw it. You'd have seen all those tons of other
Dimitri-related posts - journals, photos, whatever - that you might not
have otherwise known about without taking time to look around Peter's
site.
If your posts have tags, people looking at the posts will
see them, just like you saw Peter's tags in that album. By default, we
also list all of your tags in
the Welcome message on your site, so you and visitors to your site can
always have an easy reference to all your stuff (see the image below on
the right). Some tags will appear in a larger font size than the
others. Bigger sizes mean more posts are tagged with that word or
phrase.
You can add tags to any post you put on Multiply. Just
look for the "Tags" text area as you're uploading your post, and add
your tags there (separated by a comma if more than one). If you want to
add tags to older posts, just go back and edit them and you'll see the
same Tags text area. See the image below on the left for a visual.
Hopefully this gives you a good idea of how tags work. If you have a question about tags that wasn't covered here, feel free to send a message to customer service and we'll get back to you as soon as we can!
i want google can read my multiply. i've clicked view source, but i could not paste meta tag that i've copied from google. it's like locked, can not modified. thanks for your help
Does the 'popular tags' list only include those tags for items which individual Multiply users would have access to? One of my contacts provides restricted access to his Multiply site because it has adult content, but has some heavily used tags which describe that adult content. I would like to think that those of my contacts who shouldn't be accessing this site, should also not be seeing those tags in the popular tags list.
how come my tags dont work? for instance, my music tags..one is "roger alan wade", but when i try to search it myself my page doesn't come up. Anyone know why, am I doing something wrong:(
You delete the section or posting that has the tags attached. If you still want the entire posting, you repost it with new tags or no tags. There may be other ways to do this, but I have only been using the site for two days and that is how I did it.
hey hey, many of us are moving here from the sinking ship that is 360. I am hoping that the service will be better than over at yahell. Hopefully you will learn from their mistake and actually listen to and respond to, your loyal users. I too am new to this and am trying to move my old blog, so how do I edit a post so that I can add a tag after it has been posted here? I did not see that info in you FAQs page. Thanks much- Dez
I am finding it hard to do anything..making a layout for my site.posting graphics, inviting people..I have moved form 360 and I am so lost here..help....
I am trying to re-organize my blog. After deleting the tag from each blog, I found that the tag is still remaining. Is there anyone who could tell me what can i do to make sure the tag wont be appearing anymore after deleting it?
If you want to delete a tag to say a blog post, select edit under the blog and delete the tag there. To delete a link, select customize page and then select edit for the links content box and delete it there.

So I guess it's the long way... no shortcuts. I do hope Multiply develops a way to edit and delete tags in an easier way. I mean, going through all the posts that contains the tag you want deleted is just... kind of... a hassle isn't it? especially for those dial-up users.
Uhm, go to your home page, click customize site. It's on the right panel. Then click on your primary photo. A message box will open asking you whether to upload a new one or choose from the recently uploaded images. :)
how do you edit group tags, how do you edit the tags on your group. the group has tags. How do you edit group tags. How do you edit the tags on your group
In my site, I chose to hide the tags from the 'home' page and now i would like to search through my site using tags. Is there any way i can just TYPE a tag to find what I want? Instead of reading all the tags?
I am so confused. LOL I had a tag and deleted the pic altogether to try to get rid of the tag and now I still have the tag (which I would like to delete). Sometimes it asks on a post if I would like to add that tag (not THAT one. LOL). I need clarfication pleaseeeeeeeeeeee. Thanks.
Help: Recently when i open one of my tags i can not see others related post regarding same tag. In the past it was possible and I could see all related post of other regarding tags that I have on my page.
Apparently nobody responds to this thread, so I'll have to keep searching, lol.
There ought to be some way to disable the intrusion of other people's music automatically playing on your computer; I agree that admin should remove that post.
I find it is difficult to rename a tag, especially when a tag was assigned to hundreds of posts, it seems impossible to edit the posts one by one........any shortcuts?
