We've become aware that halfway around the world from us, the
Philippines was recently hit by Typhoon Milenyo (known internationally
as Xangsane).
Some reports say
that half of the country is without power, and around a dozen people
were killed in the storm. A number of our users havepostedblogentries
related to this (as well as photos...
and even a review
of the storm!) so we have multiple perspectives of individuals'
experiences, in addition to what's in the
news.
Living in South Florida, we have a
good idea of the impact of this type of storm. Our best wishes go out
to everyone affected by Milenyo/Xangsane.
Take care! But we're used to typhoons in the Philippines. However, due to global warming and such, the new generations of typhoons (and hurricanes like Katrina) are supposedly lethal than ever!
my friend even took a video of it outside his veranda. Which is really cool since he has a knack for making interesting documentaries.=P.hope he posts the video so you guys can see what it was like.
my family says all the mango trees on our hill fell and were thrown onto the road. One fell onto our roof and blocked the drainage. And part of the roof of a church across the boundary flew into our place. -and they still dont have electricity.:S, luckily , besides that, everything is ok.
After the first salvo of North to South gusty winds, there was sudden calm,... it was quite an experience as the eye of the storm passed... We went out of our houses to survey the damage, as it was calm for about 20 min then the winds tore in again from a south to north direction howling at 130 kph. An hour later, it was double the mess we saw earlier. Toppled trees, electric posts, utility vans, motorcycles, roofs, ad billboards.
Post the storm, as of this morning only the city of Makati has electricity. The rest of surrounding areas won't have until perhaps Sunday.
gud luck at mag ingat kayo mga Pinoys ... pamilya ko at fiancee ko na sa Pinas ngayon..please pag dasal nyo sila! pinag dadsal ko din na wala naman masaktan dyan sa Pinas!
yes we can trust God in all things. the typhoon gave us a preview of God's power. we prayed like: "Lord we remember you protected your disciples in the boat as you calmed the storm in the sea of Galilee...this is Your storm and you may not calm Xangsane now but we know with you we are safe!" -- and He did keep His people, those who trusted Him safe and calm in the midst of the storm! -- Amazing! To those who may have suffered somehow or lost something, may you find the Lord's leading in trials like this-- remember peace is not the absence of storms but knowing and believing you're in the same boat with God IN the storm. =0)
Yes! the typhoon is pretty strong in Manila, billboards, trees and the power is down! until now classes are still suspended in all levels. But, we Filipinos are used to this kind of phenomenons. Gladly this "Milenyo" did not hit Pangasinan. Prayers for our kababayan!
The typhoon was really strong. We were caught up in the height of it at around 12noon and it was really crazy. Tree branches were flying, roofs as well.. some areas don't have their powers back yet. going to office this morning was really depressing seeing all the trees down and roofs of some houses blown away. Glad that's over now..

The storm that hit our country was pretty strong. Good thing that not that many people died, although there are many casualties. The government announced the suspension of all levels of classes and of work the day before the storm hit us. For that, many were able to prepare for the incoming disaster. Electricity and phone lines were out for most parts of the country. They even removed the billboards that could harm the people. Big trucks were also turned upsidedown by the very strong force of the wind. Floods and landslides infested some regions. I hope everyone will recover from the damage soon.
'global warming makes the weather more exciting" this "incident" must be a wake-up call. have browsed thru reuters and i saw how xangsane battered philippines. everyone should know how to value their environment. it's really scary when God is calling our attention. any ways we must not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. do what should be done have faith and leave everything in God's hands
It was scary, I have been near a tornado before and yesterday at 1-2pm the winds were just really furious I thought I was caught between one, and you can hear the rumbling as if a jackhammer has been let loose, and the whistling just wont stop.... Up until now parts of Makati where I live is without power.... :((
Where is Xangsane(Milenyo) right now?Nice job for the Department of Education and PAGASA(Our weather agency here) for cancelling the classes 1 day before the Typhoon came.

agree agree *nods* everything in God's hands... but this should serve as a wake up call for most of us.. not just in florida, not just in 'certain' places that got hit by Milenyo/Xangsene... we should know how to take care of our surroundings... before it's too late. Prayers to all those back home... we were with you through the storm... through prayers, in spirit... take care guys/ God bless
hi Joybibi! the weather condition here is back to normal..except for electricity

thanks so much for the concern. Everyone in Metro Manila and in other parts of the country has a story to tell related to this typhoon. As I'm sure you've read and heard, billboards fell on vehicles, trees were uprooted, people died. I have my own story, but I'm fortunate it isn't as bad as other people's. I was on duty the day the storm hit Manila, and going home from work was a heart-wrenching experience. I continue to say my prayers for the people who have suffered and are suffering because of the typhoon. I hope somehow everyone manages to recover from the devastation it caused.
compared to the politics here that storm was nothing.. and our little consolation for losing power-- no news yesterday
have to agree. what with palparan retiring and the other guy coming in... too bad there WAS news yesterday. and the day before. and the day before. i live in bulacan and i wonder why we got power so soon...(around 7pm thrusday) it wasn't as messy here as it was in qc. i was really sad though--just when quezon city started to look good because of all the trees (and the pink MMDA fences... i HATE pink), the storm destroyed them... *sigh*
remember the shortest bridge between despair & hope is often a good "thanks Lord." God has a way of turning things around for everyone. my prayer to all the affected.
we expereienced a real brownout for like 2 1/2 days..every place seems to be deserted and our village(though was not that affected)...seemed to be like a haunted village at night..(no lights..no people outside..you bet it really looks deserted..:P)
Lost electricity for about 3 days, and a bunch of trees in our yard were uprooted big time. There was a lot of other nasty stuff, too. :s Thanks for the concern...my prayers are with everyone else who was affected by Milenyo.
the storm was very destructive... i'm just glad that most of manila has power now. also, i am very happy that there are no more huge billboards! so much deaths have been caused by these ads. it's about time the government did something about these billboards.
